Back by popular demand — Queen City Cincinnati returns as a fine art giclée and canvas print.
First created as a 4-color screenprint for the Juried 2015 Crank Up Cincy poster show, this design began as a re-visioning of the Bicycle Joker playing card. The United States Playing Card Company—founded in Cincinnati in 1867—gave us the original trickster bicyclist. I transformed that figure into a Queen riding a bike, merging the Joker’s playful motion with regal imagery to create the Bicycle Queen of Arts.
She embodies Cincinnati—the Queen City—and its fierce cycling and creative culture: movement, power, and reinvention on two wheels.
The first edition was hand-pulled at a DIY screenprinting studio and shown at Coffee Emporium in Over-the-Rhine, where the owners loved it so much they licensed the design for T-shirts—my first paid licensing project.
Born in Boise, Idaho, I moved to Cincinnati in 2006, and this piece remains one of my favorite tributes to the city that continues to inspire me: bold, resourceful, and full of creative grit.
